The Chainsmokers are set to perform a set in a pressurized capsule that will float 20 miles above the Earth’s surface and to the edge of space…
We didn’t believe either it until we read the official report from the Associated Press. The duo has signed on for the flight, which comes as a partnership with World View, a space tourism company. They will become the first artists ever to perform in the stratosphere. The flight will take place in 2024.
According to World View, the goal of the stunt is to promote space tourism—something that has become increasingly popular in the past couple of years. The company will begin offering flights to space that will last 6-12 hours. Each seat has a price of $50,000. At the trip’s height, passengers can see the curvature of the Earth and the vastness of space.
The Chainsmokers were picked as the inaugural performers because they’re a favorite of World View CEO Ryan Hartman‘s son. They released a statement about the event this morning:
We have always dreamed of going to space and are stoked to collaborate with World View to have this adventure and experience. We know the views of both Earth and space are going to be incredible and inspiring and we hope to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.
