The Weekend’s HBO Series ‘The Idol’ Gets Canceled After One Season

The Weeknd’s HBO series The Idol is getting the ax after just one season on-air. The show, created by Euphoria director Sam Levinson, wasn’t without its own controversy after months of delays plagued filming and reports of a toxic workplace on set circulated the media.

The Idol featured The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Moses Sumney, Troye Sivan, and more and also featured original music from The Weekend himself. However, critics were quick to condemn the show with The Guardian calling it “one of the worst programmes ever made” and Rolling Stone describing it as “nasty, brutish, [feels] much longer than it is, and way, way worse than you’d have anticipated.”

Now, just a couple months after The Idol premiered on HBO, the show has been officially canceled. Without a doubt, the silver lining to The Idol lies in its soundtrack featuring The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Madonna, Playboi Carti, Future, and more. You can check out The Idol’s full soundtrack below. Enjoy!
