Old school dubstep has been making a strong comeback within the modern dubstep and bass music circuit. Few people are as responsible for the birth and growth of the dubstep genre as The Widdler. After just premiering his sinister Mr. Bill remix a few weeks ago, we’re back to share his latest EP, No Sleep, out now via WiddFam.
If there’s anything we’ve learned from The Widdler is that he’s never been afraid to venture into the deepest, darkest corners of dubstep. No Sleep uses some of the lowest frequencies available as we navigate through the producer’s creative mind. The title track sets the tone for the rest of the EP as an eerie, dungeon-inspired soundscape filled with whispers and echoes. On “Cosmic Darkness,” The Widdler toys with an array of warped synths and low end swells to ramp up the energy ever so slightly. “The Drugs” is perhaps the most varying track of the bunch as he introduces a reverberant female vocal atop a bed of bass and ambient nature sounds.
