UK Alternative Hip-Hop Group Monster Florence Flaunt Unique Sound on ‘Master System’

|||,

There’s a 6-piece hip-hop outfit from the UK that should be on your radar. Monster Florence, who debuted on TSIS last year, have released their new album Master System, the fourth in their discography.

Through the blending of hip-hop, punk, indie, psychedelic rock, and more, Monster Florence has carved out a nice unique sound for themselves. The music is reminiscent of other genre-blurring masters such as Gorillaz and Kenny Beats. Paired with insanely catchy hooks and meaningful storytelling, Monster Florence have proved to be one of the most compelling hip-hop groups coming out of the UK.

According to the band, Master System serves as a retrofuturistic vision of the world:

Master System delves into the future effects of technology on the world by reaching to the past…We have distorted synths woven into full string sections. There are ghostly operatic vocals and saxophones beside robotic vocoders. It’s the idea that the future isn’t sterile and gleaming but an accumulation of everything that came before.
