Following multiple short teasers for Donald Glover’s upcoming Atlanta FX show, a full-length trailer has arrived. This new promo video titled “Inhale Atlanta” offers us the first real glimpse of what we can expect from the show’s vibe and tone.
Donald Glover has perviously stated he’d like Atlanta to be like “Twin Peaks with rappers.” For those unfamiliar, Twin Peaks was a 90’s murder mystery well known for its overall aethetic cinematic approach and has amassed a cult following. If this latest promo for Atlanta is any indication for what we might expect from the series, we’re in for a treat. The video is artsy and showcases movie-quality cinematography as we get a closer view of Atlanta’s landscape over the course of the nearly four minute trailer that even includes a short cameo from Migos.
Atlanta follows the story of Earnest “Earn” Marks (Glover) and his rapper cousin Alfred as they navigate the Atlanta music scene. While the show is a comedy at heart, it brings perspective on racial identity as Glover took an unorthodox route of hiring an all black writing room. "The thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black,” says Glover. “The No. 1 thing we kept coming back to is that it needs to be funny first and foremost. I never wanted this shit to be important.”
Glover has one of the biggest weeks of his career ahead of him with Atlanta debuting on 9/6 in addition to his Childish Gambino ‘Pharos’ shows in Joshua Tree on Sep 2-4, where he plans on debuting his latest album.
