NYC-based artist Yaeji has been an exciting breakthrough artist to watch this year, and she just released her second EP of 2017. EP2 features five tracks that show her all-around talent in producing, songwriting, and singing.
The Korean musician has really come out of her shell in the past year, building on her lo-fi house music to create confident, pop tracks that put her vocals at the forefront instead of obscuring them in the beat. Standout track "Raingurl" features a mix of English and Korean vocals that culminate in an incredibly infectious hook over a hushed but danceable house beat. The final track on the EP is a rework of Drake's monster hit "Passionfruit" from earlier this year, that flips the upbeat dancehall beat of the original into a melancholy track with hushed auto-tuned vocals. It shows that she has an incredible ear and an ability to build upon others' sounds just as well as she can create them on her own. Enjoy!
