Childish Gambino spoke with GQ to talk about all things music, comedy, and TV. In the interview, he revealed that his 2018 hit, “This Is America,” originally started as a joke and a diss track directed at Drake.
To many, “This Is America,” was the industry-breaking anthem that took aim at all the things wrong with the current political and socio economic landscape. It feels pretty on brand that Donald Glover would later reveal that “ It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it. But then I was like, this shit sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it.”
