It is almost a month away from the release of Ben Böhmer’s third studio album, Bloom. The electronic virtuoso is going back to his roots, leaning into his identity as a composer/songwriter rather than just a producer on his upcoming album. We cannot wait to hear what Ben has in store with Bloom, but for now, let’s dive into the third single from the album, “Rust.”
Ethereal synth beds and a soft, forward-moving four-on-the-floor beat build the foundation for “Rust.” Paying tribute to the sound of his previous projects, the track offers Ben’s fans a wave of nostalgia, bundled in a neat, euphoric package. Vocals from Abby Sage are the cherry on top, adding to and complimenting the emotive nature of the track.
Ben commented on the writing process, sharing:
I wrote most of this piece in the Italian mountains, inspired by a beautiful top line from Abby Sage. ‘Rust’ began as a simple piano melody and has since grown into something that really resonates whenever I play it live. It’s out today—give it a listen. One step closer to ‘Bloom.’
