After a decade since their last album release, Miami Horror have returned for WE ALWAYS HAD TOMORROW, an 11-track musical journey that’s every bit nostalgic and evocative. The album marks an artistic awakening for Benjamin Plant, the groups founding member, and the rest of the band. Serving as a concept album exploring themes of adolescence, coming of age, the circle of life and our connection to the universe WE ALWAYS HAD TOMORROW is profound in its message.
The process of creating this album began in 2020. Plant shares,
“During that time, I was contemplating life a lot…I think we all were. At the same time, I was also learning to play the piano. These two things came together at the right time, setting the melancholic mood and the themes of the album. I wanted to find our own artistic space and approached the album as if it would be my last. And truthfully, you never really know when it will be.”
That existential conversation Plant was having with himself at the inception of this album speaks through the music strongly. With elements of disco, funk, soul, house, pop, electro this album travels through atmospheric and diverse soundscapes. “TOGETHER” samples soul legend Errol Stubbs, infusing vibrant downtempo disco and indie pop. “DON’T LEAVE ME (IN THE SUNSHINE)” features musician and Royel Otis band member Tim Ayre for a warm and ethereal track that sounds made for the golden hour.
The album’s focus track, “WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS” with vocalist Angela Armstrong of Telenova is the anthem that echoes the message of this whole project. Focusing on the idea of cosmic resolution that we will all return to the stars where we came from and the peace in knowing that. The song sees Plant singing, “I never got to say goodbye,” as a message to his inner child, while Armstrong sings, “I’ll see you again when we’re all made of stars.” The track also comes with a captivating music video directed by Redamo Rosa that plays as a retro sci-fi where robots are trying to understand human emotion. It’s both visually stunning and emotionally moving.
