Irish duo 49th & Main have successfully gone from TikTok babies to a big time act. Ben O’Sullivan and Paddy King, the brilliant duo hailing from Kilkenny, have been on the up and up for a while now. They’ve captured the hearts and feet of fans with their emotionally charged and infectious indie-pop-electronic sound. Following their recently sold-out North American Tour, the duo today has announced the June 13th release of their debut album, Happy Tears, along with its lead single, “Mr. Rain,” arriving via Ninja Tune’s Counter Records.

49th & Main are the new hot stuff at the moment. From securing festival slots at Glastonbury and Electric Picnic, to landing their music in the EA FC soundtrack, there’s no doubt they are here to stay. Today’s release, “Mr. Rain,” is an absolutely lovely track. Melodically dazzling, addictingly upbeat, and just flat out fun.

The track actually stems from Paddy King’s father, who writes music. He encouraged the boys to take a song of his from 36 years ago and make something of it. The duo took the first four lines from the song, and went from there. Although it was only a little part, it served as the core of inspiration that made “Mr. Rain” the bouncy yet bittersweet song that it is.

Their debut album Happy Tears is a coming-of-age project and inspired by the realization that these days we are in currently are the good old days. The duo is capturing the rush of young adulthood and metaphorizing that sensation through 21 tracks. Mark your calendars for June 13th, it should be an awesome one.
