Pabllo Vittar, and MNEK, and Eden Prince, oh my! You may not find all three of these exciting dance music names in Oz, but they can be found on Aluna‘s newest single, “Oh The Glamour.”
This track oozes confidence, drama, and yes, glamour. A ballroom-esque bassline forms the central sonic theme, accentuated by harp-like synth effects. Aluna, Vittar, and MNEK each trade soulful verses over Prince’s production work, winding together in the back half of the track with intoxicating harmonization.
It also looks like this song’s release date isn’t a coincidence. Below, Aluna explains the song’s message of celebrating marginalized communities; fitting given June’s status as Pride Month.
“What is the allure of glamour? To me it holds most of its power in the aspirations of those living a life of struggle. Glamour can uplift the worst of days and the darkest of hearts, make tears beautiful and pain graceful…Black and LGBTQ+ people go through a lot of shit, but we often present ourselves as glamorous. Being glamorous is an aspiration that drags you out of bed. Aiming for normal and average is a way to send yourself into the shackles of society. Glamour can often be a method to break free, celebrate, and thrive.”
This single is newsworthy on its own, but that’s not all Aluna is announcing today: her second solo album MYCELiUM is coming out July 7th, and she’ll be kicking off a North American tour to celebrate.
