Aminé stole everyone’s hearts back in 2016 with his infectious, speaker knocking single “Caroline.” You couldn’t go to any party without hearing it at least twice. “Caroline” led to Aminé’s appearance on XXL’s Freshman 2017 cover, which helped expose the Portland rapper to a wider audience ahead of his debut studio album Good For You.
Today, Aminé drops his second studio album ONEPOINTFIVE. He was relatively quiet about his progress on the album, only hopping on Twitter back in June to let people know that he’s still alive and working. Yesterday he tweeted out a short little trailer, saying it would drop today, and — well, here it is!
ONEPOINTFIVE is a total of 13 tracks long and features rappers Gunna, G Herbo, and Rico Nasty. Similar to Good For You, Aminée’s lyrical content tends to gravitate towards brief, intimate, little modern day love stories. The production isn’t too heavy, and it fits his style perfectly, letting you hear each syllable from him very clearly. That being said, some of these beats certainly provide a fair amount of thump.
Although we enjoyed Good For You, ONEPOINTFIVE sounds like Aminé is taking himself a bit more seriously this time around, with his focus clearly on storytelling, lyrical flow, and appropriately hard beats. If you weren’t a fan of his first album, we highly recommend giving him another chance on this new project.
