Ariana Grande’s New Album Is Full Of Mac Miller References

Ariana Grande just released a new album this morning, Positions. The project is her whopping seventh studio album in seven years, and some are already calling it her most mature to date. While listening, we, as well as many other fans on Twitter took notice of several lines on the album that seem to be dedicated to the late Mac Miller, whom she was romantically involved with around the mid 2010s.

On one of the first songs of the album, “Just Like Magic,” there’s a line before the chorus that says “take my pen and write some love letters to heaven.”

“Off The Table,” with The Weeknd, is a song asking an unnamed previous lover if “she can’t have you” then is “love still on the table.” Ariana has expressed in the past how hard it was for her to be in a relationship while mourning over Mac Miller in her 2019 track “ghostin.”

A bit more of a stretch here, but the intro of “nasty” sounds strikingly similar to Ariana’s 2017 collab with Mac, “The Way.”

Mac and Ariana had a very public relationship when they were together (they even performed their shared love song “My Favorite Part” on SNL together). She also has dedicated a couple of songs to Mac in the past. December 2018’s “imagine” is rumored to be about him. “thank u, next” also mentions him by name.
