Community, connection and creativity are three of the most essential tenets in electronic music. San Holo’s imprint bitbird continuously carries those values with every release. Today, the label releases create together vol. 5, their community-powered compilation series that has become a core part of the labels identity.
Originally starting in 2019, create together originally was a challenge hosted by the label on their Discord server where producers, vocalists, and visual artists would come together and create. Each compilation consists of music from artists within the Discord community. “create together has always been about more than music. It’s about building a space where our community can express themselves, collaborate freely, and be seen. Every year, it reminds me why we do this. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s where the heart of bitbird lives.” bitbird’s co-founder Thorwaldbb shared.
With 28 artists from 13 countries, this year’s edition is sweet. Packed with music from genres like drum and bass to stutter house to alt rock. The project’s lead single was, “VE LE NX,” from Italian trio AbtomAL, Marlus, and Raar. Serving as a punchy house contribution to the compilation. Other standouts include the opening track “Become Everything, That’s Her” by Foks that is an emotional drum and bass number with a gnarly bass, as well as “Calling” by Fonss, NVR ME, Limbow, lvndquist and Outerskies. This track sounds like a combination of Flume and San Holo, and balances out the project very well with its sound that’s reminiscent of San Holo’s early work.
