We’ve heard BJ The Chicago Kid’s smooth R&B vocals in many hip-hop tracks over the past few years featured on tracks with artists like Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T., Freddie Gibbs, and Kanye. Now he’s decided to stream his debut album In My Mind via NPR a week before it’s release, which includes his much anticipated latest collaboration with Kendrick Lamar.
He’s already shared “Church,” his collaboration with Chance The Rapper, and even released an alternate version with Anderson .Paak and Ty Dolla $ign. Now we get “The New Cupid” as he enlists his past collaborator Kendrick on a slow, almost gospel hip-hop track for Kdot to drop off a soulful, slow flow, showing off his uncanny ability as a lyrical shapeshifter over any beat. The track sounds like a love song, but with a twist as BJ croons about love being lost singing “cupid’s too busy in the club / at the bar, rollin’ up.” Stream below and familiarize yourself with this talented hip hop/r&b singer. Enjoy!
