Talented instrumentalist and producer Cloudchord has collaborated with some of our favorite names: Big Gigantic, Empancipator, and ProbCause – to name just a few. The latest artists to recruit his musical acumen are the Denver-based electro duo Sugar Nova, who asked him to serve up a remix to their tune “Gospel Hour (2AM).”
This chill-hop remix features hopeful, airy piano paired with a swinging, whimsical vocal chop to create the sonic foundation. Plucky guitar adds another layer to Cloudchord’s richly textured production while sweeps of chime complete the tropical, sunkissed vibe. The laid-back, warm instrumentation forms the perfect complement to singer Rachel Eisenstat (of Raven Jane) emotive voice.
Below, Cloudchord gives us an inside look of how he handled this remix:
“I’m known as an instrumental act, so when Sugar Nova asked me to remix on ‘Gospel Hour’ I saw this as a unique challenge. How can I branch out, yet somehow stay in my lane at the same time? The lofi beat, tropical plucks, and lap steel guitar give it that classic Cloudchord sound, but Rachel’s unique vocal stylings were the reeses to my pieces.”
