A trailblazer in the world of techno and contemporary house, Damian Lazarus always seems to know what fans will latch onto well before they do. That’s why his label Crosstown Rebels has entrusted the legend to handpick a collection of eight tracks that showcase the most heavy-hitting tracks on the label. This, the fifth edition of the Crosstown Rebel’s compilation, SPIRITS V, contains some of the best from the label to date, with releases from veterans Layla Benitez, I AM JAS, Denney, and more.
Spanning from deep house to glitchy techno, this compilation has it all. Layla Benitez starts things off with her stylish techno track, “Fides,” featuring progressively energetic builds and a pulsing beat. Continue to track number two to be greeted by a Latin-influenced house bop by none other than Mr. Diamond. His cowbell-finessed, vocal-chop graced “Trabajar,” is sure to grab your attention. Riding off the spicy vibes provided by Mr. Diamond, Denney comes in hot with his track “Kill The Soundboy,” keeping the compilation flowing. ASK:ME, EL Muerto, and Soulfoot are up next with their techno-inspired collaboration, “Talk To Me.” Gruuv Element’s, Chinonegro, and Magila all bring their unique spin to the comp with their exquisite lineup of tracks “Boom Room,” “My Moment,” and “Rayiys.” Finishing SPIRITS V off strong is I AM JAS‘s experimental, ambient track “Thanks Moon.” A journey through spacious pads, auxiliary percussion, acoustic plucks, and emotive vocals, the closing track provides the listener with a complete taste of all Crosstown Rebels has to offer.
With a roster of artists from all over the globe, SPIRITS V provides the listener with a diverse listening experience, taking in the sounds of techno and house music from a variety of cultures.
