We were wondering if this time would ever come. Damon Albarn, the frontman of the virtual Gorillaz project, has mentioned in a recent interview that a Gorillaz movie is in fact in the works. Here’s what he’s revealed in his conversation with Radio.com:
Well, we are supposed to be making a film while we’re doing season two (of ‘Song Machine’). We signed contracts, we’ve begun scripts and stuff. Making an animated film that’s kind of abstract is quite a big risk for a movie studio because they’re very expensive. If you’re telling a slightly obtuse story that only sometimes makes any sense, it’s quite difficult. That’s what we’ve discovered. We will do it, we are doing it. I see a lot of people doing animated videos these days but I don’t think they really touch the quality of ours.
As you can see, not only does he confirm that the contracts are signed for this Gorillaz movie, but they’ve even begun to work on writing scripts already. In addition to that, Damon has also confirmed the sequel to their most recent project: Song Machine: Season Two. Even though it seems like we’ve been feeding on new Gorillaz content all year long, we’re excited and relieved to hear that there’s even more on the way.
