Defunk lives up to the “fun” of his stage name on his latest single. “Chase The Vibe,” released via Westwood Recordings, sees the Canadian producer returning to his funk roots after a more melodic release earlier this year.
On “Chase The Vibe,” he sets the stage with a funky bass guitar riff, before throwing in some plucky electric guitar as well. It doesn’t take long before we dive straight into the first bass drop, where a fun vocal chop joins the party. This bass drop sets the tone for the rest of the song, which is a groovy journey guaranteed to have you headbanging along with it.
There’s something slightly nostalgic about this style of music. It reminds any bass fan of the music that got us into the genre in the first place. It turns out this is completely intentional, and even the reason behind the name of the song.
Defunk explains:
I first was introduced to electronic music in the age of Flux Pavillion, Doctor P, Skrillex, etc. That time was full of sawtooth sounds and wobbles, and I really wanted to make a throwback track to honor that classic sound. ‘Chase The Vibe’ is that throwback track, trying to “chase the vibe” those songs in the early days gave me.
