The world is in the midst of truly historic time. Not only have we been experiencing a once in a lifetime pandemic, but now the largest civil rights movement in history is taking shape before our very eyes. In the wake of this trying yet profoundly empowering time, one of our most notable favorite artists, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic, has released a passionate instrumental single and an emotionally raw accompanying video.
The single, appropriately titled, “Together,” leads with a pensive piano line as Dom weaves together passionate phrases on his saxophone. As the piano slowly evolves into a rich full blown choir, the sax lines convey an increasingly poignant unspoken energy that somehow encapsulates every emotion we’ve been feeling for the past few weeks.
The music alone is enough to demand a pause, but the accompanying video will give you chills. As Dom rips through a flurry of impassioned thoughts and phrases, slides and videos of the current protests are sewn together to paint a mighty picture of the resiliency of human beings to come together when we are needed most.
Dom had this to say on the release:
“I wrote this song a couple months ago in the middle of the global pandemic. I woke up feeling every feeling— every emotion— and just wrote it, recorded it from my home and posted it up online. It was very in the moment. I wrote that I found comfort knowing that we were all in this together and that hopefully we’d all come out of it a little stronger and as better humans… Now, today, as the global pandemic lingers, we find ourselves in the midst of what has quickly become the largest civil rights movement in history. This is a breakthrough moment for humanity. I feel a sense of togetherness now, more than ever, and if we keep pushing we know we will finally start to see real change where we need it most… I am learning more everyday how I can be a better ally, friend and collaborator to the BIPOC (Black & Indigenous People of Color) who have inspired my music & my life… All proceeds from this song will be donated directly to Black Lives Matter. “
