Dugong Jr Releases Immaculate New Electro Pop EP, ‘Polite’ via Moving Castle

||, |,

We say this often but in this case it’s especially true: stop what you’re doing and check out the latest EP from Australian producer Dugong Jr.

Out via Moving Castle, Polite is one of the most impressive, sonically cohesive EPs we’ve seen so far this year. Stunning and diverse, some tracks function as dancefloor ready, and others lean dark, experimental, and glitchy.

Each track seems to explore a different emotion and is mixed so that they seamlessly flow into one another. “Love Lost” and “Amphibious”, featuring some of Australia’s hottest vocalists with performances from Blush’ko and Jezzabell Doran, respectively, are two particularly vibey tracks. Both have beats reminiscent of KAYTRANADA, who Dugong cites as an influence.

In a press release, Dugong gives a sneak peak into the background of the project.

This EP is about my experiences growing up in Australia with a Chinese/Malaysian background. I generally felt that a polite demeanour was both expected and tolerated. From a young age I understood that a way for me to stand out was through my artwork. Without having to be the loudest in the room, It was a polite way for me to not only have my voice heard, but have people reflect on themselves.
