Electric Forest Empowers Women With “Her Forest” Initiative

Electric Forest has entered a league of its own, becoming the only festival in America to sell out prior to its lineup being announced — this includes Coachella and EDC Las Vegas.

The four-day Michigan-based event has become a TSIS favorite over the years and boasts yet another stacked lineup for 2016, featuring Bassnectar, Major Lazer, Fetty Wap and more. From the festival's eclectic billing of electronic, indie and hip-hop acts to its incredibly unique location, being in a forest and all, it's hard to steer wrong.

This year Electric Forest’s organizers launched a new program called “Her Forest,” an initiative that is intended to create an empowering environment for female attendees of Electric Forest. The foundation of the project is based off three pillars: connection, inspiration and comfort.

Among the group camps will be one solely intended for women and led by Edith Johnson who runs The Festival Girl, an online journal of sorts where she provides her candid experiences on festivals across North America. As the event nears, Johnson will be connecting camp members to "collaborate on projects, coordinate arrival, and facilitate festival activities," according to the festival site.

Lifestyle coach and consultant Kiki Federico will also serve as one of the weekend leaders for Her Forest, hosting the Women's Circle at The Jubilee stage where there will be story-sharing, games and other connection-building activities.

The program will also include a “Forest Women Panel & Meet and Greet” with some of the festival's female production staff and artists. Due to limited space, it is recommended that those who are interested sign up here as soon as possible. Electric Forest will be held in Rothbury, Michigan this summer from June 23-26.
