The track may have come out in 2020, but “Heat Waves” from Glass Animals is proving to be one of the most successful songs in British history. This is the fourth week in a row that “Heat Waves” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart (the music industry standard record chart in the US).

This is officially the longest a British group has remained at the top of the Hot 100 since The Spice Girls did it with “Wannabe” in 1997. The chart has been around since the 1950s. According to NME, The most weeks spent at number one by a British group was the legendary song “Hey Jude” by none other than The Beatles. It spent nine weeks at the top. The all-time record is held by Lil Nas X for “Old Town Road” (19 weeks, including the remix).

“Heat Waves” originally came out on Glass Animals’ 2020 project Dreamland. It made a climb to the top after a whopping 59 weeks on the chart.
