DIRTYBIRD Invites Ivy Lab to Get Weird on New ‘Press Play’ EP

||, |,

During its birth, DIRTYBIRD Records was known to deliver eccentric, bangin’ music without taking itself too seriously. It was a response to the pretentious techno scene in the Bay Area, and what they created still rings true nearly 20 years later. One way DIRTYBIRD is retaining their cutting-edge weirdness is through their new White Label project, allowing artists to branch out with their sound on the label like in their earliest beginnings.

For the third edition of the DIRTYBIRD White Label series, Ivy Lab comes through with an expansive four-tracker titled Press Play. With full artistic freedom, Ivy Lab share a barrage of genre-blending bangers. “Dresden Codex” offers an acid-laced take on halftime; “Options” sees the DnB veterans revert back to their roots. Both “BBQ” and “Press Play” are monsters of their own, illustrating complex soundscapes, accented by hard-hitting kicks.

We’re absolutely in love with this new avenue of music DIRTYBIRD has drawn up. If you’re into it as well, we suggest checking out the previous releases in the White Label series too (Claude VonStroke, Justin Jay, Nikki Nair).
