Jesse Mac Cormack’s GRIP EP brings together a feel-good electronic experience across a 4-track journey. The release shares a little something for everybody, representing a wide range of genres, but not at the expense of leaving out an arcing central theme. The Montreal-based artist leans into relatable and symbolic topics within, touching on everything from personal achievement, new beginnings, and more.
Through soft-synth pads and colorful toplines, title track “Grip,” starts off with a bright disposition. Clean drum work eases you into a state of bliss, settling the listener in for more to come. Jesse shares the essence of what makes up the song. “[Capturing] the energy that you can find in a live show like that…there’s a crowd that can really give it back to you.”
“In The Open,” is a plea for more authenticity. Crooning vocals and slow-paced tempo lays groundwork for a vibe colorful, entrancing, and catchy. “NOT 4 U” peaks the intensity with highly rhythmic keys and a quaint, bubbly atmosphere. The anthemic intro easily leaves one on the edge of their seat. With surprise, Cormack pulls the energy back and stirs up a romantic dialog in the lyrics.
Showcasing familiar samples and drum kits from previous tracks, “NOT 4 U,” allows the core feel and sound of the EP in totality to come into frame. Ahead of the EP’s release, Cormack dropped “La Vérité,” in collaboration with Charlie Houston and BRÖ. With a natural chemistry present between the artists, the single comes equipped with a fiery R&B texture supporting the hooks around every corner.
With influences ranging from Caribou to Weval, Jesse continues to reframe his musical instincts in a way that feels lively and honest – GRIP EP is a reflection of his pursuit toward these values. Stream the EP below and enjoy!
