15 years ago, Melbourne native Lipless was a bedroom producer trying to make it. As a teenager he would constantly send demos to Kaskade’s MySpace inbox, where Kaskade would listen and offer feedback regularly. As the two got closer and closer Kaskade eventually helped Lipless move to Los Angeles in 2014, where the mentorship has turned into a very special musical connection. After earning a GRAMMY nomination in their first major collaboration for a remix of RY X’s “Only” in 2016, and many more collaborations following, the two have joined forces today to release their new single “State Of Mind” alongside British singer songwriter Poppy Baskcomb. Arriving via Enhanced Music’s sub-label Colorize, this song serves as a reminder of the timelessness and magic of progressive house.
“State Of Mind” is blissful, euphoric, and just perfectly progressive house. Earning support from artists like Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, and Oliver Heldens, this single is already making its mark. Knowing the history between Kaskade and Lipless, you can naturally sense the deep connection and trust the two artists have with each other through this song. When progressive house is done right, you can’t help but feel everything. From the lush synths, to the rhythmic bassline, to Poppy Baskcomb’s heavenly vocals, to the subject matter of working yourself into a better state of mind. This track is like watching waves as they crest, roll, crash, and repeat again. Much like waves, life is a continuous cycle of ups and downs. Eventually you will get back to that good place.

“When I first heard the vocal demo, the lyrics really resonated with me on a deeper level. I felt such a connection with it and how it talks about being in a better place or better ‘State Of Mind’. I was coming out of a tough year and had worked hard to get myself into a better place mentally and physically and when this demo came along it almost felt as if the universe had intended for it to make its way into my hands. I showed the demo to Kaskade and he also felt a connection to it, so we decided to work on it together and did our best to produce it in a way that paid tribute to the overall uplifting nature of the song.”
