Deep in the concrete jungle of New York City, there lives a rapper/producer/visual artist by the name of Kota The Friend. Kota has built a strong reputation for thought-provoking lyricism woven throughout breezy chilled out production, all the while remaining fiercely loyal to his pursuit as in independent artist. This weekend, Kota released his sophomore album, EVERYTHING, and it is a silky smooth twelve tracks of free flowing inspiration.
Kota’s projects have evolved in tandem with his personal growth. His earlier works spoke on the depression he’s struggled with but has since risen out of with hopes of inspiring the same in others. EVERYTHING plays like a culmination of the relentless dedication to his craft as an artist and to his growth as a human and father. The result is remarkably uplifting song-writing over chilled-out production and an unspoken underlying message to listeners that they too can accomplish their goals, no matter how big or how small.
While Kota has proven throughout his works that he is more than capable of single handedly producing head-turning music and visual accompaniments, this sophomore album taps the talents of artists like Joey Ba$$, Bas, KYLE, and others to add some extra diversity to the mix. The NYC artist’s son, Lil Kota, even makes a special guest appearance on the closing title track, “Everything,” and let me tell you, you’ll melt as soon as you hear it.
