Amy and Josh, otherwise known as the brother-sister duo, Lastlings, found a home on RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s imprint back in 2018. Since then, the duo has made massive strides in their career, touring with the likes of Two Door Cinema Club and Glass Animals, and remixing for their label bosses themselves. Just yesterday, they released their newest single, entitled “Get What You Want.”
Amy’s vocals gracefully soar through the track, delivering hook after hook, and infusing her pop influence within the duo’s deep house roots. Dynamic production from Josh and fellow artist Alex Metric fills the track with ambient pads and gloriously saturated arpeggios. Complimenting the vocals, but not stepping on their toes, the duo forges a powerful balance between live instrumentation and electronic elements to bring this single to new heights.
Amy of Lastlings commented on the meaning behind the lyrics, saying:
It explores mental health and the relationship that I have with myself. It’s about putting myself out there and not letting doubt get in the way of what I truly want. I’ve got a lot of enemies that live inside my head. This song isn’t about love for another person, it’s about my relationship with myself. ‘You’ refers to a darker version of myself that I am trying to fight and overcome.
