We are just a few weeks away from the release of LCD Soundsystem's new album American Dream, and today the band has released a new single to get us even more excited. After they split up in 2010 we didn't think we'd ever hear new music from the Brooklyn group, so it still feels surreal that this album is really coming out.
The new single "Tonite" follows the excellent previously released ""Call the Police" & "American Dream" and it sounds like they never left. It starts out with the funky synths the group is known for, and slowly adds in different elements throughout the song including a vocoder, cowbell, and unusual guitar riffs. Frontman James Murphy's vocals shine over the complex and ever-changing beat, ranging from spoken-word to his impressive falsetto. The song comes paired with an old-school, lo-fi video featuring the band performing the song on a round stage.
The bands fourth album is set to release on September 1st on James Murphy's own DFA Records, followed by an international tour. We will have this on repeat until then and can't wait to see what else the band has in store after their hiatus. Enjoy!
