Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Can’t Hold Us” Officially Goes Diamond, an Ultra Rare Feat

||, , |

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are officially one of the most commercially successful musical duos to ever exist. Their single “Can’t Hold Us” has officially earned a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A diamond certification is only awarded for 10 million sales and streaming equivalents earned in the United States alone.

The RIAA founded its Gold & Platinum program back all the way back in 1958, and since then, only 63 artists have been awarded diamond certifications. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are one of only 19 acts who have earned two of them, thanks to the success of “Can’t Hold Us” and “Thrift Shop.” Both tracks appeared on their 2012 album, The Heist.

In a press release, Macklemore spoke about the recent achievement:

What a journey on this record… We started to perform this song before it even had a hook, way before The Heist came out… and here we are a decade later and it’s a Diamond single. It’s a record that has stood the test of time…. Still probably my favorite song to perform live.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis shared a pop-forward track “MANIAC” a couple of months ago. Their last full-length body of work together was This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, back in 2016.

#TeamRIAA with @ADAMusic loved presenting @Macklemore + @RyanLewis with a 10X 💎 certification for #CantHoldUs feat. @RayDalton! The #RIAATopCertified duo is 1 of just 19 acts to have 2 Diamond singles in the Gold & Platinum program! 👉 https://t.co/Zoy4aaMRBQ pic.twitter.com/I9kP3f4H7b
