Peaking on the Beatport house charts with his leading-single, the West Coast producer finally shares his full debut album with the world, Hey, How Are You?.
With just about every genre hashtag attached to its description on SoundCloud, it’s fair to say that MNTRA’s debut album features its share of genre exploration. From drum & bass, to lo-fi, to house, Hey, How Are You? showcases the producer’s wide range of influences. Soft and subtle tracks like “Passive Goodbyes” take us into a place of relaxation, while “Surrender,” a collaboration with talented rising artist, NOZU, drops us in the middle of the dance floor. Additional collaborators worth noting on the album include Victoria Rae, AiDO, Misuø, Luna, and dernis, the kid.
MNTRA shared the meaning behind the album:
‘Hey, how are you?’ – The age old question that never seems to get a direct answer. For the past few years, I’ve avoided answering this question sincerely. Either I don’t want to stress or bore the person asking, or the answer just seems too long-winded to be genuine. The album is the answer to this question for me, and it’s taken a journey of self reflection, pain, struggle, growth & failure to actually come up with an answer at all. Through the lens of love and un-actualized relationships, the album takes the listener through the struggles & triumphs of being an Artist, lover, or friend in the 21st century.
