Ever since Modern Machines got his start ten years ago, he has exclusively released singles, giving his undivided attention to each individual song, one at a time. Today, he shares his first collective body of work, an energetic and inspiring EP that was well worth the wait. This is New York.
Modern Machines turns up the heat more than ever before on New York. If you’re a fan of disco or house, get ready to find your new five favorite songs. Starting off on a high note, “Something About You” shines with euphoric vocals and tasteful production. The EP’s New York-inspired tracks, “Bronx,” and “Brooklyn,” play off of each others’ vibes, almost acting as a two-part ode to the energy of the Big Apple. Our favorite track had to be “Diskovery,” standing out with funky riffs and phaser-filled chords – not to mention a sneaky sample of the guitar riff from “Music Sounds Better With You.”
Modern Machines shared some insight into his creative process, commenting:
Last year, I was struggling, trying to figure out what direction to take my music and where to go as an artist. I ended up following my heart and creating disco-inspired house music because that is the music that influenced me the most (Daft Punk & French House). This is the most complete and honest body of work I’ve ever released. I decided to name it after the greatest city in the world, NEW YORK. I can’t wait to spin these songs under every disco ball in the universe.
