Moses Sumney has distinguished himself as a true artist across multiple mediums. His music is unrestricted by genre. His performances are visually stunning. Today, Sumney takes his talents to film as he releases his feature-length performance Film, “Blackalachia.”

When 2020 put a halt to live performances, Moses made a masterful pivot to capture the feelings and emotions of the year and the artistry of the music he had planned. He and his band re-arranged and relearned their planned songs in ten days and flew off to Sumney’s home in Western North Carolina. Now in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, the group performed a wildly reimagined “live odyssey” comprised of fourteen songs from Sumney’s first two albums, græ and Aromanticism. The end result is something straight from a dream. Visual and sonic spectrums are traversed in ways that could only come from the mind of Moses and his team.

While a Moses Sumney concert would certainly be an experience not soon forgotten, this performance film serves as an incredible redirecting of creative energy. It is joined by the release of the accompanying album, Live From Blackalachia. Stream the breathtaking performance film, “Blackalachia,” below. Enjoy!
