We’ve got a delectable little track for you today courtesy of Foreign Family Collective mainstay, obli. His new single is titled “hei,” and it’s bursting with colorful, melodic energy.
ODESZA’s label has virtually never missed throughout its 8-year lifespan, and obli’s single is another addition to its wonderful discography. It opens with vocals from his wife, who speaks tenderly in Norwegian, leading us into a sample-filled melody that’s filled with keys and synths. “hei” progresses very naturally, too. The weightless vibe of the track will transport you to a bright, pure microcosm.
Here’s what obli said about the new track, in a press release:
“I keep coming back to this idea about how music has always been there for me. I really want to make this new music feel more personal than anything I have ever done before. As I was working on this song, I asked my wife who is Norwegian to record a couple of voice memos as personal messages to me. She started the first one with “hei” which means hello in Norwegian and eventually ended up becoming the title of the song.”
We’ll be keeping a close eye on obli this year, as he works towards the “start of a bigger chapter.”
