California and Outside Lands are at the forefront of some new progressive ideas when it comes to cannabis consumption. The major Bay Area music festival will become the first large scale event to get permission to legally sell cannabis to their attendees.
There have been several other events that the state bureau has approved cannabis consumption for, but nothing that compares in size to Outside Lands, an event that drew over 200,000 people over three days last year.
21+ patrons will be able to legally purchase and consume lab-tested cannabis products in a sanctioned area at the festival called Grass Lands.
The permit application was supported by political leaders like Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener.
“Cannabis is part of our culture — particularly at music festivals — and it makes sense to allow people to obtain it legally,” Wiener said. “We need to move past prohibition, which doesn’t work.”
Will other festivals and events follow suit? Will this one day be the norm for cannabis consumption? Only time will tell.
