Overmono are back with another new single from their upcoming album. “Calling Out” is the fourth piece of Good Lies, which the UK duo announced last month alongside the brilliant “Is U.” Prior to that, Overmono had released “So U Kno” and “Walk Thru Water” in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
An atmospheric yet powerful track, “Calling Out” features gripping melodic chords interlaced with distorted vocals from CASISDEAD and slowthai. According to Overmono, here’s how the tune came about:
We’ve had these chords written for quite a while now and could never find quite the right context for them. One night we were procrastinating in the studio, mostly just drinking and slamming some CASISDEAD and slowthai tracks. We’d been listening to them a lot as they have an incredible way of consistently delivering unexpected music and we find that approach really inspiring. Then we had a bit of a eureka moment and realised it might have been the type of sound we were looking to go with alongside that chord progression, so we stayed up all night and finally got it done.
As one of our artists to watch this year, Overmono’s debut LP is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. It releases via XL Recordings on May 12.
