Five years after the loss of A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg, his posthumous album, Forever, is beginning to rollout. Today marks the release of the first single from the project, “Nutshell Pt. 2,” which also features revered rappers Busta Rhymes and Redman. The track is also produced by the late legendary producer, J Dilla.
Forever will be a collection of “carefully assembled songs earmarked by his signature verbal fireworks, hilarious ad-libs, incisive social commentary, and unexpectedly introspective confessions.” The project was entrusted to Phife Dawg’s business partner Dion Liverpool, and will be released on his imprint Smokin’ Needles Records later this year.
According a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Phife Dawg said the album will be “basically my life story.”
