[PREMIERE] Rising Oakland Artist Pink Skies Shares Dreamy Cover Of 6LACK’s “Gettin’ Old”

Although his first appearance on TSIS came just a couple months back, Oakland-born artist Pink Skies, AKA Arieh Berl, has already impressed with his laidback fusion of genres that he describes as “Escapism Pop” – think psychedelic synth waves, dreamy vocal melodies and overall chill production that brings a nostalgic, ‘70s feel to the table. We premiered his debut single “Start.End” on the site back in July, an infectious offering that puts each of Pink Skies’s many talents, including guitar, production, singing and songwriting, in the spotlight.

Today we’re happy to be premiering yet another single from the artist, a cover of 6LACK’s “Gettin’ Old.” This track first premiered on 6LACK’s stellar debut album FREE 6LACK, and has quickly grown in popularity along with the rest of the 11-track R&B project.

Pink Skies turns “Gettin’ Old” on its head, with the only familiarity of the cover being the lyrics. The ethereal vocals mostly take a front seat throughout, minus a delicate xylophone solo that seamlessly weaves itself into the track midway. Pink Skies’s mellow voice floats effortlessly over each layer of production, with subtle guitar plucks, big synth melodies, unwavering percussion and more making timely appearances throughout. Once again Pink Skies shows his many talents with this track, and we can’t wait to see what else is to come for the young artist. Check out “Gettin’ Old” below – enjoy!
