Created with “a more focused, unified approach,” Submotion Orchestra‘s upcoming EP, Five Points, marks a new era of music for the quintet in their fifteenth year together. Today, we have the privilege of premiering the first single from the EP, “Side One,” exclusively on TSIS.
“Side One” showcases a deeply powerful arrangement from Submotion Orchestra. The quintet utilizes soft, grounded piano chords, light, airy percussion, spacious and vibrant horns, and ethereal vocals, to create an orchestral soundscape poised to move the listener with its palpable emotion. “Side One” consistently crescendos in energy, building upon its previous sections with a new instrument, melody, or motif.
Taz of Submotion Orchestra shared some insight behind the track:
We’ve been together 15 years now, and have gone through a lot of experiences both individually and collectively in that time. The lyrics allude to that stage in life when you’ve passed through youthful energy and optimism and are dealing with much more serious things in life – births, deaths, relationships ending, responsibilities that seem to come out of nowhere and rapidly dominate your life. This can be overwhelming and hopeless, but sometimes it can also lead to a little bit of wisdom and realism about your own goals and achievement.
You can stream “Side One” exclusively at the link below, before its official release tomorrow. Submotion Orchestra’s ‘Five Points’ EP arrives October 25 on SMO Recordings. You can pre-save it here. Enjoy!
