PREMIERE | ZHU Live Band Members, Hello Yes, Showcase Broody Electronica Sound on “The Lesson”

||, |,

If you’ve been to a ZHU live show, then you’ve technically heard Hello Yes. Today we’re pumped to introduce you to the duo, comprised of guitarist Mitch Bell and saxophonist Aaron Leibowitz, who make up the live portion of ZHU’s shows. They started releasing music as a pair this year and made their live debut as Hello Yes at Lightning In A Bottle this past spring. Now they’re gearing up for their second EP with a new single “The Lesson.”

“The Lesson” really showcases the duo’s talent for incorporating live instrumentals into club beats. It starts off with a smoky, brooding wash of synth. Before long, a house beat and subtle bass line kick in, picking up the pace of the track. Bell and Leibowitz masterfully weave in understated guitar strums and vocal chops, creating and groovy albeit moody vibe. On the bridge, they introduce an elegant flute, adding a mystical element that we float along for the duration of the track.

This song won’t be released until Friday on Gravitas Recordings, but luckily we managed to score a premiere for you. You can listen to “The Lesson” exclusively below until then. Enjoy!
