Earlier this week, REZZ surprised us all with the announcement of an EP. An industrial, mid-tempo, futuristic 4-track EP out of nowhere from REZZ arriving in less than a week? SIGN ME UP. And to make it better? Today is that day. The NOVUS EP is a collaborative project with anonymous producer X1-Y2 and arrives via REZZ’s own label HypnoVizion.
NOVUS is effortlessly good. It’s eerie and intense and all of our favorite parts of REZZ’s music. There isn’t much out on REZZ’s copartner X1-Y2, except that the two worked together on a joint remix of REZZ’s 2016 smash hit “EDGE” earlier this year. REZZ also stated that X1-Y2 had “nerd-level production and sound design ability” and that she plans to work with them a lot more.
As for this offering, NOVUS is attention-grabbing and reminds us how awesome midtempo bass music is. The whole EP is instrumental, featuring industrial and mechanical cutting edge sounds that put the nasty in bass music. “ETERNAL” is my personal favorite, with a bridge containing a face melting guitar that builds up tension before bringing listeners back into the mud. The final track “SUBSEQUENT” is the grimiest of the EP. At a lower BPM it’s the perfect track to conclude this audial journey.
On the EP, REZZ had this to share,
“I wanted to channel a futuristic/industrial/sinister vibe with this project and reconnect with the part of myself which was creating instrumental heavy, cutting edge records. Working with X1 was a seamless experience and we managed to complete this EP from start to finish in a very quick and efficient way. To say I’m proud of this EP is an understatement.”
