When it comes to DJ mixers, few (if any) surpass the quality of PlayDifferently‘s MODEL1. The mixer is especially popular among some of the biggest and best house/techno DJs such as Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber, Dubfire, Loco Dice, and of course the the owner of PlayDifferently, Richie Hawtin. Today, Richie unveiled the new MODEL1.4, which is essentially a more compact and affordable version of the MODEL1.
As amazing as the MODEL1 is, it’s quite uncommon to see it in home studios, night clubs. This is mostly due to its price and size. The MODEL1 has six channels and costs around $3250. The new MODEL1.4 has been reduced down to four channels (it’s now skinnier than most Pioneer and Xone models), and costs about a grand less at a price point of $2300.
Here’s what Richie Hawtin himself had to say about the release:
With MODEL 1, we set out to build a new breed of DJ mixer, more akin to an instrument, with levels of control and quality that inspired creativity. We always felt a compact version would be welcomed in home studios and perfect for streaming. At a more affordable price, but with no compromise to the purity of design and components, this is a smaller format MODEL 1 with four channels, perfect for the home, as a compact club mixer, or as a nimble tour instrument.
