Jayda G has announced her sophomore studio album, Guy, a project dedicated to her late father. The Canadian artist has been steadily rising through the ranks of electronic and pop blenders, such as Aluna, Fred again.., and PinkPantheress. Guy will contain 13 tracks, interwoven with recordings her father made when Jayda G was just ten years old.
From the singles released so far, Jayda G is intent on focusing on her own vocals to tell the story of her father, William Richard Guy. “Circle Back Around” is the third of the bunch, with the full album set for a release date on June 9.
Her intention with this project already shines brightly through her songwriting. We can’t wait to see what kind of story the rest of the project will tell. Here’s what she had to say about it:
I wanted the album to be a blend of storytelling, about the African American experience, death, grief, and understanding. It’s about my dad and his story, and naturally in part my story, too, but it’s also about so many people who wanted more for themselves and went on a search to find that. This album is just so much for people who have been oppressed and who have not had easy lives.
