We know the production prowess of SOFI TUKKER like backs of our hands. The American duo has proven they’re more than capable of pumping out all shades of bangers, but their newest release, “Mon Cheri,” takes an international twist with the help of famed African husband/wife duo, Amadou & Mariam.
An adventurous guitar line plucks away as a Portuguese siren song captures a sense of wanderlust. As the percussion picks up, the declarative Bambara & French chorus adds an energized drive to the charismatic tune. After utilizing the organic sounds of traditional instruments, the track culminates with a stimulating drop of rapid fire laser ticks.
SOFI TUKKER commented in a recent tweet that Amadou & Mariam were their dream collab. After meeting at Mali’s Bamako Institute for the Young Blind, where they both performed at the Institute’s Eclipse Orchestra, the pair went on to find continental success through the 80’s and 90’s. Through the 2000’s their reputation grew to international levels, even leading to work with Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn and his Africa Express project. Their sound has led to consistent international touring and working alongside some of music’s biggest names.
If you don’t feel the urge to get up and groove with this tune, there may be no saving you. Stream Sofi Tukker’s new collab “Mon Cheri” with Amadou & Mariam below. Enjoy!
