There’s nothing like a good cover. The healthy dose of familiarity coupled with captivation to see what new twists it will take make the right remix legendary. Australian media group, triple j, has led the charge in facilitating some of the best covers in the game with their recurring segment, Like A Version. In December, the Australian dance trio, RÜFÜS DU SOL, joined the show for an electronic take on the Nirvana classic, “Something In The Way,” and today, we share the cover’s official release.
Inspired by the original, RÜFÜS DU SOL recruited the help of a string quartet for their performance.
“That’s something we haven’t done yet,” the group shared in an interview with Triple J. “In the studio we’ve often used like a mellotron or strings plug-ins, but we’ve never worked with an actual quartet… hearing live strings was such a cool experience for us because we’re used to working with soft synths and trying to make soft synths sound real. There’s just nothing really compared to having a live instrument.”
While it might have been the group’s first time playing with live accompaniment, they didn’t miss a beat. The end result is a masterfully orchestrated cover that maintains the haunting quintessence while boosting the energy into that telltale RÜFÜS atmosphere.
