It truly is a gift when a producer fine tunes their technical skills in electronic music. Being an artist is a gift. Composing songs and forming melodies and beats takes talent, but an overlooked aspect is the technical side of the process. When an artist has both, it’s just simply wonderful. Milan-based producer Somne is one of those artists. Known for his experimental and immersive breakbeat and techno sound, Somne’s music is breathtaking and intense.
Today, he has released his a brand new project in his New Energy album. At 11 tracks, the project is perfect album length and an amazing listen. Sharp sound design with a focus on the dance floor makes this project unique. You can easily sit and relish in the sounds or just as easy turn the volume up on the speakers and dance.
Inspired by the likes of Overmono and Joy Orbison, you can understand the intricacy of the music right away. The title track “New Energy” leads the project as a breakbeat driven opener with lush melodies delivered through vocal samples. “Flow” leans more into the techno side of his production as a grimy and heady but atmospheric tune. While “Coble” plays as more of a bouncy almost hip-hop style beat with an almost Flume type sonic signature.
All in all, Somne brought it with his New Energy album. A very intricate and fine tuned piece of music.
