Notorious B.I.G.’s “King Of New York” Crown Set For $200,000 Auction

One of the most iconic pictures of Notorious B.I.G. was one from his “King Of New York” photography session with Barron Claiborne. The photo was snapped only three days before his death, and now the crown worn in the picture is being auctioned off by Sothbey’s, with an opening bid of $200,000. The crown is only plastic, but considering its place in hip-hop history, Sothbey’s expects bids to reach $300,000.

Another item that is available at the auction is Tupac Shakur‘s teenage love letters to his high school sweetheart, Kathy Loy. Those are expected to go for $60,000-$80,000.

This is the first time that the major auction company has introduced historical hip-hop items as an exhibition. This will be a live auction on September 15, held at Sotheby’s New York. For more info, you can check out the full press release, here.
