Spencer Brown Drops Soul-Warming Single “Awu Wemadoda,” Announces New Album

Afro beats and house music are an elite combination. Progressive house and techno king Spencer Brown knows this better than most, as he just dropped his latest single “Awu Wemadoda,” featuring the legendary South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Full of serene and tranquil energy, this track actually serves as the lead single from Brown’s upcoming album Equanimity. He sets the tone for the album with the simple beauty of Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s vocal performance, allowing them to take centerstage on this track. Warm synths and gentle deep house beats from Brown serve as the perfect accompaniment.

Longtime fans of Brown’s will recognize this track as his most requested ID four years in the making.  According to his Instagram, Brown and fellow producer Wilt Claybourne created a bootleg version of the original Ladysmith Black Mambazo hit for a festival back in 2019. After a fortuitous meeting with the iconic choral group at one of their concerts revealed they had already heard the mix and loved it, they gave their blessing for an official release.

We’re thankful Ladysmith Black Mambazo liked this mix as much as we do; Spencer Brown’s “Awu Wemadoda” is going straight on our summer playlist. Make sure to check it out below. Enjoy!
