It's only been 6 months since Syd released her debut album, but the talented vocalist is already back with a new EP to share with fans, entitled Always Never Home. Sydney Bennett aka Syd had already made a name for herself fronting neo-soul group The Internet and recording much of Odd Future's early music, but she is really becoming a star in her solo music.
While she produced many of the tracks from her album, for this EP she chooses to take a step back and provide vocals over beats from other relatively unknown producers. It was clear they knew her style though, as these three songs sound like a direct continuation of the incredible album. The first two tracks show off her talented vocals and melodies over the dark R&B that works perfectly for her. The final track, "On the Road," turns up the bass and features prominent arpeggiated synths with her vocals weaving in and out of the beat. Her pitch-shifted voice remains a whisper for the majority of the song and draws you in to listen to every word she says.
She is about to embark on her first nationwide solo tour, and if her shows with The Internet were any indication, they are going to be ones you won't want to miss. Enjoy!
