This is something super interesting that Kevin Parker has messed around with. Last night, the musical wizard dropped The Slow Rush In An Imaginary Place on YouTube, along with instructions to listen to it with headphones for a full immersive experience.
When hitting play, you begin to hear Tame Impala‘s The Slow Rush album, but it’s buried underneath noises and sound effects of a party or a live event. Considering that there’s nobody in the world holding live events right now, Kevin has created a mix of the album that you can listen to that makes it seem like you’re out enjoying the music live.
We’ve never heard anything like this. When you put headphones on, the noises come from various different directions. If you close your eyes, it actually does seem like you’re standing in the back of a concert hall, watching the performance. He hasn’t mentioned it himself, but after doing some research, we have a good feeling that Kevin is experimenting 8D audio. Its a new type of technology that makes it seem like audio is coming from different points. It’s quite the trip.
